Challenge

The Cambridge Redevelopment Authority (CRA)was coming out of a strategic planning process with a new mission and set of operating principles.One of their goals was to create a new brand for the CRA, which previously had been represented by the branding of individual projects and a city seal,without a distinct institutional brand.

Solution

The CRA put out an RFP and Ambit Creative Group won the contract through an interview process and pricing review. Additionally, the CRA indicated that it was pleased to work with a neighbor in the Kendall Square area with whom it has had an existing relationship with through The Ambit Works as their printer. Initial discussions with Ambit revealed that their solution would be collaborative and that Ambit understood the CRA’s need for a traditional print presence alongside a digital. Ultimately they were also won over by Ambit’s unique understanding of applying graphics both for print and digital thanks to their association with The Ambit Works and the competitive pricing for the services offered.

Results

Ambit Creative Group was able to put together simple, contemporary and versatile new brand for the CRA, maintaining a civic feel while remaining appropriate for the CRA’s wide variety of roles within the city. Through community and organizational discussions, Ambit was able to create a logo that fit into the CRA’s story. They were also able to help with signage, collateral and even office design, down to the workspace’s paint colors.

I valued the fact that Ambit’s team saw that we are still in a world that straddles
digital and hard paper materials. There was a certain flexibility in having a team that works in both media well and understands the application of those graphics across the board.
